Healing Thots Archive Vol #2 February 2005 - Zero Point
I am enrolled in a self-study course through Clayton College of Natural Health (Birmingham, Alabama) in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Natural Health. Often each course has a project assignment in addition to the reading material. The project I just completed involved keeping a daily diary over a two-week period and track how you are feeling each day. The diary has a place to track weight, temperature, blood pressure, sugar level, a pain discomfort chart, drugs/medication, vitamins and herbs, a today's diet section, and even a place to track the weather.
Although I was not in the habit of writing down how I wasfeeling on a daily basis, monitoring these kinds of observations (except maybe the weather) has been a relatively routine awarenss I have developed over the years while pursuing my goal of feeling the best I possibly can in spite of genetics, health issues, age, and life in general. The part of the project that sparked my awarenss meter was defining the scale I would use to rate these daily observations. I thought I would share this with others in hopes it would give their awareness meter a shot also.
The first question I asked myself is how do I define "zero." Is zero how I feel in general on a given day OR is "zero" where I would like to be on a daily basis and the variable would go up and down from there. I decided I would base zero on a day where I felt relatively ready to face the day, but probably would not be singing and smiling my way through the day. I decided a +5 would be a goal I could shoot for. If I could stay up around a +5 on a fairly regular basis, then most likely my daily energy level, my quality of sleep, my diet, and my interest in life in general would nurture myself and those arond me. Just getting through the day has never been acceptable to me, although I certainly do spend some time there. I'm aiming for that +5 to become my new "zero" point, whether I reach it or not, time will tell. But I'm going to keep trying. Because smiling through the day with lightness and energy is so much more appealing than just getting through the day...day after day after day.
Is your health and energy where you would like it to be? What is your "zero" point?
Blessings,
Priscilla
