What comes to mind when you hear the words "healthy lifestyle?" Do you envision someone eating nothing but vegetables and downing a handful of supplements every day? Well it really doesn't have to be that way. There are many little things a person can do to live a more healthy lifestyle without turning their life upside down. Small changes can make a big difference. For me, prevention is so much easier to live with than waiting until some nasty disease moves in and takes over your body and your life. When that time comes, you don't really have the option of bending the rules once in awhile to enjoy the party food and beverages -- your life literally depends on sticking to the prescribed plan or you (and your loved ones) suffer the consequences. We've all heard the phrase "Everything in Moderation." This is a good philosophy to have as you begin the transition to that "healthier lifestyle."
Assuming this philosophy makes the transition seem a bit more doable, the next step is to determine the motivation behind the decision to make some lifestyle changes. It needs to be more than a nagging loved one, although that can start the thinking process and you gotta start somewhere? Different things motivate different people -- to do the things you love, keep up with the kids or grandkids, energy to stay on top of daily activities, anticipating a healthy, active retirement -- all of these things represent Quality of Life issues and isn't that what it is ALL about? And remember, you determine your quality of life standards. Don't let yourself be too influenced by statistics or other's opinion. Determine where you want to be and then work toward that goal, even if you don't quite reach it, you will most certainly be further ahead of the game than if you never give it a shot!
Now that you are motivated, educate yourself. What steps can be taken toward that healthier lifestyle and improved quality of life? Let the Healing Adventure be an educational resource for you. Take advantage of the Educational Saturdays. This is a friendly, relaxed forum to gather information on many types of alternative health approaches from general info on nutrition and supplementation to specific practices that historically have proven to be beneficial to health and wellness.
