Grass-Fed Beef
Local family owned and operated, providing natural habitats and feed for its animals, Burns Farm offers quality meats to individuals and families. Located on a hilltop 15 minutes outside of Corning, Burns Farm encompasses 120 acres of pastureland and 80 woodland acres. The pastures are home to two bulls, 50 mother cows, and their offspring spanning two calving seasons. Rotational grazing, a system of intensive pasture management designed to benefit cattle health and enrich grassland, keeps our cattle moving frequently to fresh pastures where they partake of their sole dietary item - grass. Our cattle are fed no grain. Kelp and salt supplement their diet for mineral balance. Because our cattle do not receive antibiotics, vaccines, or added growth hormones (true for all of our animals), customers feel confident about the health benefits and integrity of the meat they buy from us to feed their families. One customer, a chiropractor by trade, claims that "our freezer full of Burns meat is our health insurance," while another patron remarked that our meat "tastes like meat used to taste." Beef is offered in quantities ranging from pieces (packages of ground, steaks, roasts) to split half, half, or whole animals.
Lamb, Pork, Turkey
Like the cattle, our sheep graze the pastures and are fed no grain. Bought as weanling lambs, they grow to maturity in a natural, low-stress environment with the frequent human interaction proper to all our animals. Our lamb has been complimented as being significantly tender and great tasting. Lamb is sold as a whole or in halves.
Pigs root. It's a natural part of their make-up, allowing them to de-stress. We give our pigs a pen where they can root to their hearts content and shelter which allows for sun or shade at their choosing. Happy animals live a quality life and provide great tasting and tender meat, reaching its full potential through a natural diet and low-stress environment. Pigs eat bugs, grass, and grain free of antibiotics, medications, and hormones.
Raised for Thanksgiving feasts, our turkeys come to us a day old in August and after their protected brooder period roam through the grass, filling out on bugs, grass, and grain free of antibiotics, medications, and hormones. Captivated by the succulence and tenderness of their Thanksgiving fare, customers not only return, but reserve turkeys well in advance for the next year. Interested parties may contact John or Anne Burns at 607-523-8480 for further information or to place an order. Buying directly from producers is an exciting option for our customers; we realize that it's a new process for many people, though, and hope to field any questions with answers that will help it become like second nature.
